SKA SUSTAINABLITY
Sustainability has many implications. One can refer to the life of the product which is expected to last a few decades so that one does not have to make as many thereby reducing the resources used. A second implication is the way you make the product. One has to be conscious at every step of production to avoid unnecessary overuse of resources. Thirdly as a consumer, you can also be a part of the process by choosing sustainable products with all the implications. Buying wisely and buying less is an important aspect of the sustainability process.
As an ancient civilization, we are blessed with the wisdom of using the best and most sustainable way to earn our livelihood. It is in our DNA to conserve water, save electricity, and use natural materials wherever possible.
At Sari Ki Almari we do only things that are completely necessary in our processes not giving in to temptation of overuse. Recycling and Jugaad are our mantras in packaging for instance. Used cardboard is used for our tags, and leftover fabric is used for making carry bags. This kind of ethos running through the company makes it easy to be a zero-waste one to the extent the exit sign is also a hand-painted inverted wooden tray. We use plastic only to pack our sarees for couriers and to conform to some other rules of production. What also helps is that our product is very sustainable, being sarees and handstitched blouses, almost no electricity is used. Hence we are very proud of what we do and how we do it.
